Changing The "Face" Of America

The December 2, 1901 headline read, "Gillette to market a replaceable razor". The article below stated,

Dec. 2, 1901 - "An American businessman named King Camp Gillette, who in 1895 patented a new model of razor, is planning to market the gadget in the coming year. The razor is shaped like a hoe, and its double-edged blade is designed to be used just once or until dull, discarded and replaced with a new one. William Nickerson, the only employee of Gillette, resolved the manufacturing problems.

The new Gillette model, with its double-edged, replaceable blades, is designed to be both a safety razor, as well as more efficient. Yet it is very difficult to predict what kind of reception the male public, despite the decreasing popularity of beards, will give this new type of razor, which has a very think and sharp, but dispensable blade."

King Gillette changed the "face of America" and his success was built on the word "safety". For ages, men and woman painfully and dangerously used the straight razor. The desire for safety became so strong that sales dramatically increased in three years. In 1903, when the first safety razors went on sale, 51 razors and 161 replacement blades were sold. By 1906 sales had increased to 300,000 razor and 500,00 blades.

Likewise, there must be a real felt need on the part of people before they will seek the spiritual safety that is found in Jesus. If people do not realize that he or she is facing the possibility of eternal loss, there will be no interest in the spiritual safety that Jesus promises to them that call upon Him.

" In one sense, everyone has eternal life if by that we mean that everyone will live eternally. The question is not whether you have eternal life. The real question is, "Where will you spend eternity?" Will you spend eternity in heaven or in hell.

Jesus spoke of a real heaven and he also spoke of a real hell. You cannot read the Bible and come to any other honest conclusion.

Jesus spoke more about heaven and hell than about giving money to a church. I am sorry to report that some ministries speak more about money than about eternity. By the way some churches and/or ministers speak about money some would think that the topic of money and giving was what occupied most of the Lord's discourses to His disciples or the people of His day. Do not misunderstand, obviously, any church requires money to operate, but the role of a pastor is not to talk about the financial needs of the church but rather to prepare people for eternity!

Jesus said, "Fear not him who can kill the body, but fear him who can cast both your body and soul into hell." I must honestly report that Jesus taught that not all people are going to heaven when they die. That fact should and must realistically cause some to question their spiritual safety. However, people will not seek Jesus and search out what the Bible has to say about heaven and hell if they feel safe right where they are in life and in their spiritual understanding. Surely, one of the basic ministries of any church is to challenge people about their personal relationship with God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. The responsibility of the church is to make sure that people are prepared for eternity. Pastors should challenge people to examine their spiritual safety before they die and before it is too late.

Can I challenge you today by seriously asking you that necessary question that all men must face to insure their future safety, "Where will you spend eternity?" If you do not know what the Bible says about heaven and hell, would you talk the time this week to read the words of Jesus as recorded in one of the four gospels of the New Testament?
